Rob Dyer
CEO, Noots! Nutrition, LLC
Founder and creator of RuckPack
Major Robert Dyer is an active duty Marine Corps aviation officer, a highly decorated combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and an entrepreneur who is combining his wartime experience and business acumen to create supplemental nutrition and energy products for military and active civilians alike.
Dyer founded his company, San Diego-based Noots! Nutrition, in 2008, drawing on his experience in a modern war waged under vastly different conditions than prior conflicts, requiring new technologies, weapons and skillsets along with increased energy, endurance and nutrition.
One of his company’s first products is RuckPack, a concentrated liquid energy shot of essential vitamins and minerals, without caffeine and sugar. Dyer developed RuckPack under battlefield conditions to help weary troops recover quickly from fatigue and dehydration with minimal down time under stressful conditions
Dyer served two tours in Iraq from 2005-2006, first with a Marine fighter squadron as a weapons systems officer and later with the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company elite ground unit as a forward air controller, coordinating airstrikes under fire.
At the end of 2006, Dyer joined the newly formed Marine Special Operations Command (MarSoc), which deployed to Afghanistan, where he served two tours through early 2008 and where he conceived the basic formula for RuckPack.
After returning from Afghanistan in 2008, Dyer joined the Marine Corps Augmentation and Training Support Unit, a research and development group, and spent two years testing and evaluating cutting edge technology relating to airstrike coordination. At the same time, Rob provided airstrike coordination capabilities for several units in the war zone
Among his combat decorations, Dyer holds seven Air Medals, a Joint Commendation Medal (with Valor), two Navy Commendation Medals (one with Valor), two Combat Action Ribbons, two National Defense Medals, five Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, a Presidential Unit Citation, a NATO-ISAF Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Medal and a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
He also received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism in 2001 when he rescued a man incapacitated by a gas station explosion in Pensacola, FL. As the citation reads, Rob pulled the man safely from his vehicle seconds before flames consumed the entire cab.
A native of Tacoma, WA, Dyer graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, in 2000 with a BS degree in economics. From there he attended the Marine Officer Indoctrination Course in Quantico, VA and completed Marine Corps Naval flight officer training in Pensacola, FL in 2002.
At flight school, Dyer earned a letter of commendation from the commanding officer, as well as the honor of distinguished graduate. Upon graduation from flight school in June 2002, Rob was selected for F/A-18D flight training in Miramar, CA
Dyer enrolled at the Naval Postgraduate Academy in Monterey, CA in June 2010 and is currently a candidate to receive his MBA in financial management in December.
Dyer lives California, with his wife, Anna, and their 2-year-old son, Hunter, who was born with heart disease and has had six heart operations. During his third surgery, at four months of age, Hunter suffered a heart attack and spent the next three months on life support.
For the past two years, Rob and Anna have staged Hunter’s Fight, a virtual triathlon/duathon/5K that has raised funds for the Naval Special Warfare Foundation and the Semper Fi Fund.
